Embracing Creativity Beyond the Design Studio

As an interior designer, stepping away from work is highly productive. Through various activities like breaks, travel, dancing, concerts, socializing with friends, playing music, cooking, exploring art galleries and museums, and learning new languages, I develop into a multidisciplinary individual. These experiences enrich my creativity and perspective, enabling me to offer unique design solutions for my clients.

Here are the things I do outside of work that all help me be a better interior designer for my clients:

Traveling exposes me to diverse cultures, architecture, and design styles, giving me ideas I would not find by just staying in New York.

Music: activities like dancing to music, attending concerts, and playing the piano inspire emotions that give me a specific approach to each aspect of a project. If I’m choosing art and went to a classical concert the day before, my choice of art will be different than if I went to an electronic DJ set instead.

Stress Reduction: breaks with myself and social gatherings with friends provide crucial stress relief, improving my focus and access to creative thinking.

Cultural Sensitivity: trips to art galleries and museums and conversations with artists allow me to have a different perspective on the work I do as a creative.

Enhanced Communication: I speak multiple languages, and I’m currently learning a new one. Learning new languages not only improves my communication by creating new neural pathways but also helps me connect with a broader clientele.

Fresh Perspective: stepping away from work daily through a walk, cooking, or meditating grants me a fresh outlook, aiding in problem-solving and unique design solutions.

We’re all creative; find the way outside of work that helps you be better at your job!
