What do You Know about French Interior Design?

What else do you know about French interior design?

Your first contact with French decor may have been the movie Amelie and ever since you think Parisians all live in a red and green apartment that looks like a Christmas card.

Or, you might assume any French regular Joe (aka Jean-Gérard) lives amongst cristal chandeliers and vermeil silverware since you saw Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.

Let’s rethink this.

How is French design different?

It’s (almost) always tasteful and elegant.

For centuries, France was a major influence in interior design and is still looked as the number one reference across the world.

Today, with clean lines, upscale minimalism, it tries to create a balance between tradition and modernity.

So, are the French coming to save the US from its neons and rubber-sole shoes?

They can try!

France might owe the US a thing or two!

However, French interior design can sometimes be cold and too luxurious, a perfection that you need to tip-toe around as if you were in a museum. It can also lack warmth, comfort, and color, to the image of Parisians who walk around in what seems to be garments of mourning, because… black is the new black.

Nevertheless, Americans do bring comfort, never fear to be bold and are welcoming.

This is why, at Carole Vaudable Interior Design, we try to create cozy spaces without neglecting the aesthetics of it; making it feel homey but also making you proud to welcome your guests in it.
