Do you Know How your Home Impacts your Health?
A new year is always full of promises to yourself. One of the main resolutions people are making this year is taking care of their health, whether that be physical or mental.
The residence you live in has an effect on your well-being, hence your health, according to the World Health Organization* and the National Center for Biotechnology Information**, just to name a few.
Think about it, you spend 10.2 hours on average everyday at home: sleeping, eating, hosting people, relaxing and sometimes working (when you called in sick because you need a break from your coworkers and/or boss!).
Interior Design is not just a superficial concern, it’s a way to contribute to your future self.
Here are 5 reasons why you should update your place:
Create a therapeutic environment: it facilitates health maintenance
Investing in your habitation now prevents you from dealing with the consequences of neglect in a few years (ex: having proper plumbing installation to limit water leaks that can lead to mold growth affecting respiratory health).
It actually makes you save time and money in the long run, avoiding massive renovation (ex: living in an under-insulated home costs way more to maintain inside heat).
If you own a hotel or restaurant, a design upgrade will benefit your clients and your employees by making them feel safe and providing them with a pleasurable experience.
Last, but not least, no one wants to end up like one of those hoarders getting an intervention on national TV!
What are the main elements you want to keep up to date?
Maintenance is necessary for the structural parts (heating, plumbing fixtures, insulation) every 15 years.
Every few years, check on the finishes:
Furniture: Keep it clean and don't recycle someone else’s couch or mattress: they may contain allergens such as dust and mites.
Paint: Don’t stay with peeling paint that can expose you to lead poisoning.
Flooring: Cracks in the wood or stone may injure you or crawling children.
Lighting: Poor lighting will damage your vision in the long run.
